Additional Cross Country Info
|
| I'm a senior at McIntosh High School. I'm the captain of our cross country team right now. My senior season went pretty well. My times at my region and state meet this season were big improvements over what I did last season. Also, my team won our region meet and placed 4th at state. After my high school season, I trained for the Footlocker South meet on November 28. I ran in the senior race, finishing in 60th place with a time of 17:10...........................................................I've run cross country and track since I was a freshman. I started running for the first time in 9th grade for cross country. I was not really committed, did not train over the summer before the season, and did not do anything beyond the required work, and ended 9th grade with a 20:15 5K PR. I still did not train before track and only ran 5:28 for the 1600 and 11:33 for 3200. However, I ran a 19:30 in a 5K road race during track season that year..........................................................The summer before 10th grade, I really began working hard. I trained hard, but probably too hard because I peaked early during the season. I got down to 17:50 after a summer of hard running, but at the region meet, I ran an 18:20, one of my worst times of the season. Our team didn't qualify for state, but after the season, I ran a 17:39 on a "fast" course. Also, I ran an 18:34 at Footlocker South after the season, proving I had peaked early. I continued to work hard by training for track. In 10th grade track, I ran 10:38 for the 3200 and 5:04 for the 1600 and a 2:12 split during a 4x800, but once again I peaked early and ran a 10:54 at regions. ...............................................................The summer before 11th grade, I trained for xc and ran summer track. During the summer, I ran a 9:47 3k (a converted PR for the 3200), 4:40 1500 (converted PR for 1600), 17:07 5K (PR for 5K), and 7:31 2000m steeplechase with the Southside Pioneers Track Club. With the quick times I ran, I was setting myself to peak early in cross country. After a summer of many races AND cross country training, my cross country season did not go as planned. I only got down to 17:17 during the season, and I peaked early before region and state, running an 18:11 at region and then one of my worst races ever, 18:39, at state. After the season, I ran a 17:43 at Footlocker South................................................................However, I made sure to not overdo my winter training before last track season, and it paid off with my best season of running ever so far. I had my best 1600m race at region. I ran 4:35 for the 1600 at region, placing 3rd with a new PR, and I ran 9:58 to get 2nd in the 3200 at region, qualifying for state. My 2 mile time wasn't a PR (9:54 at Carrollton Invitational a week and a half before), but I qualified for state and was the region runner-up. At state, I did not perform as well in the 3200, running 10:09 for 6th place in the AAAA race because I had not fully recovered from a hard workout two days before the race. However, I was the top finisher from the class of 2010 in the race for AAAA, and a few weeks later, I ran a 16:38 5k (big PR) on the track at an all-comers meet at Emory University...........................................................During this past summer, I ran a few races with Southside Pioneers Track Club. I won the Young Men's 2000m Steeplechase at the AAU Area 6 National Qualifier Meet in 7:31 to qualify for the AAU Junior Olympics. At the AAU Junior Olympics at Drake University, I ran the Young Men's 2000m Steeplechase, and finished 10th in 6:42.34 (only .3 second out of 9th place and .5 second out of an 8th place medal). All of this was in the midst of my cross-country training. |
