Rebecca Miller

I love softball and have been playing it since I was seven. I also want to get the opportunity to play in the Olympics. My best chance to do both is to play in college. Also, I believe that my character is better for having played this sport. It's hard and it's challenging. And, I've chosen the two most athletic positions possible (catcher and 3rd). I love being able to help lead my team to winning each inning.

Two weeks before his 12th birthday, my best friend hanged himself. It deeply affected me and made me realize that I want to help people; that is why I want to be a clinical psychologist. Because of this experience, I know that people may be struggling and not say anything about it. I do my best to be aware of that and do little things to help my teammates, friends, and family know they are important to me.

I do something every day. Whether it's just tee work in my back yard or pushups, I have to stay at the top of what I do. I also know the sacrifices I make because I believe I can always get better at my sport.

As a team, our club team volunteers our time with children's groups and organizations that donate Christmas gifts to disadvantaged children. We also donate time and money to charity "friendly" tournaments. These are important to me because I am incredibly grateful for everything my parents have given me; and even though they sacrifice, there are so many kids who do not have the advantages I do.
